About Me
My name is Amanda Gaboriault and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I have always had an affinity toward listening to others, reflecting, and helping them heal. Growing up in Rochester and feeling connected to this community is one of the reasons I've planted roots here. Every year I am discovering new restaurants, local businesses, and meeting kind people who share my passion for helping others. In my personal life I enjoy reading books, advocating for marginalized communities, working to dismantle systemic racism, spending time with my fellow LGBTQIA+ community members, playing with animals, being in nature, and listening to music. Listening to music often leads to singing and dancing which I find puts a smile on my face.

As part of the chronic illness community, I am understanding and compassionate about the different ways that illness and pain can negatively impact not only your functioning but your relationship with yourself, others and the world. I suffer from a rare condition called IIH (idiopathic intracranial hypertension), also known as pseudotumor cerebri. Being a disabled practitioner comes with challenges such as needing to move or cancel appointments when my symptoms flare.

In my professional life I have provided therapy in many settings including hospitals, outpatient clinics, and non-profit organizations. I have worked with severely and persistently mentally ill people with chronic conditions such as schizophrenia. I have also worked with couples struggling with fertility, individuals struggling with trauma, and families struggling to implement boundaries to children with behavioral concerns. Each person teaches me about their individual experience and helps me understand the best way to guide them toward a healthier and happier life.

This career has taught me the profound significance of validation, unconditional positive regard and support in the healing process. I am honored to bear witness to your most intimate and painful moments as I share your burden. With some gentle yet straight forward guidance, you will build the healthy and calm life you've dreamt for too long. That life will become a reality in our work together.
